Gridfinity dimensions: all values in millimeters

Gridfinity works because every part uses the same dimensions. Here are the key values for reference – from the 42 mm grid to bin heights and magnet holes. They follow Zack Freedman's open specification and the widely used reference project gridfinity-rebuilt.

Bin sizes in millimeters

A bin that is n units wide measures 42 × n − 0.5 mm on the outside:

So a 2 × 3 bin covers 83.5 × 125.5 mm.

Bin heights

Height is counted in units of 7 mm, measured from the bottom to the top of the wall. The stacking lip (4.4 mm) adds on top:

Add the baseplate the bin stands on. Gridmint's planner works out how tall bins can be in your drawer from the drawer height and baseplate style.

How many units fit my drawer?

Inner size minus a little clearance, divided by 42 – rounded down. At 400 mm width with 0.5 mm clearance per side, that's 399 ÷ 42 = 9 units (378 mm). The remaining 21 mm are added to the baseplate as padding. Gridmint does this automatically when you enter the inner dimensions – or pick one of the ready-made templates for IKEA, Systainer and more.

Magnets and screws

Gridfinity uses neodymium magnets 6 mm in diameter and 2 mm tall, four per unit. The holes are slightly larger (Ø 6.5 × 2.4 mm) so the magnets fit. For fixed mounting there are holes for M3 screws. Magnets are optional – bins sit securely in the baseplate without them.

Frequently asked questions

Why is a Gridfinity bin 41.5 mm and not 42 mm wide?

The grid is 42 mm. Bins are 0.5 mm smaller so there's a small gap between neighbors and they lift out easily.

Does the stacking lip count toward the height?

No. The height in units (× 7 mm) goes up to the top of the wall. The stacking lip adds 4.4 mm on top.

Which magnets do I need for Gridfinity?

Round neodymium magnets, 6 mm in diameter and 2 mm tall, up to four per unit.
